In November 2011, it was announced in the December issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine that a three-part theatrical film project is in development by Shaft. The first two films will be compilations of the television anime series, while the third film will be an original story written by Urobuchi. The first film, with the title Hajimari no Monogatari (始まりの物語 The Beginning Story), will premiere in Japanese theaters in fall 2012. The second film has the title Eien no Monogatari (永遠の物語 The Eternal Story).
